AMERICUS — Two individuals accused of aiding Minguell K. Lembrick have been arrested and charged with hindering apprehension of a criminal.”
Those arrested were Corey Adams, 24, of Americus, who was arrested by Dooly County Sheriff’s deputies after being stopped for speeding last weekend, according to Sumter County Sheriff’s Chief Deputy, Col. Eric Bryant. The other man, Flinza Davis, 23, of Americus, was already in custody at the detention center in Perry, was also charged. Adams remains housed in the Sumter County Jail.
The arrests stem from the manhunt for Lembrick on Dec. 7-8, after he shot and killed Americus Police Officer Nick Smarr and Georgia Southwestern State University Police Office Jody Smith Dec. 7 when they responded to a domestic call at Country Club Apartments, South Lee Street. Smarr died at the scene and Smith died the following day in a Macon hospital. Lembrick eluded authorities, which poured into Americus into the night and numbered around 300. The intensive manhunt ended the following morning when authorities entered a house in North Americus and found Lembrick’s body.
Danny Jackson, special agent in charge of the Georgia Bureau of Investigation’s Region 3 Americus office, said the GBI had warrants for the Adams and Davis on March 20. He said the two are not accused of helping Lembrick by transporting him while authorities searched for him, but for giving him information about where authorities were looking him. Lembrick committed suicide the morning after he shot the two police officers.
