Our opinion: We take our job seriously

Earlier this week, we all experienced some anxious moments, at several different times all throughout the day, as we watched to see what the storm systems moving through our area would do.
These were tense moments for all of us, but especially for those who were here in March 2007, when an  EF3 tornado struck Americus.
This past Wednesday was especially emotionally draining as local citizens were warned to take shelter immediately while Sumter County was pounded by heavy rain, buffeted by strong winds, and we watched an amazing and frightening light show as cloud to ground lightning struck again and again and again.
We at the Americus Times-Recorder took this weather event very seriously. We listened to weather radio, police scanners, and even monitored area television stations. We texted, called, and emailed to ensure we had the latest information. We posted updates on our website and on our Facebook page, and you responded. When you sought up-to-date information, you came to our website to find it. Out of town media outlets called on us for information.
We appreciate your faith in us here at the Times-Recorder, the only local community newspaper. We take our job very seriously and we pledge to continue to bring you the latest news and weather information, as well as everything else.
We appreciate your support for and confidence in us
