AMERICUS — Mrs. Margie Tanner Austin, age 85, passed away on Thursday, April 27, 2017, at Phoebe Sumter Medical Center.
Funeral services were planned for 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 29, at First Baptist Church. The Rev. Keith Parks officiated. A family interment service was to follow in the afternoon.
The family receive friends from 5-7 p.m. on Friday evening, April 28 at Hancock Funeral Home, 427 S. Lee St.
Born on Jan. 10, 1932, in Dooly County, Ga., she was a daughter of the late John Lelas “Tank” and Mary Elizabeth Tanner. She was retired as secretary from Sheffield Hardware Company.
Mrs. Austin was a member of First Baptist Church, where she had been actively involved in Sunday school. She was a former member of the Early Bloomers Garden Club.
Survivors include two sons: David Austin and Mike Austin; grandchildren: Kim Herrin (Chris), Brittney Avant (Steven), Chealsea Cromer (Jamie), Clayton Austin (Anne Marie), Austin McGlaun (Gwen), and Cullen Austin; great-grandchildren: Taylor Beamon, Hannah Beamon, Hollet Herrin, Jackson Avant, Grayson Avant, Tate Cromer, Everly Cromer, Jack Austin, Joshua Austin, Madeleine Austin, Landon McGlaun, Logan McGlaun, and Gabriel McGlaun; one brother, Robert L. “Bobby” Tanner (Ira Jean); sisters-in-law: Georgia Tanner and Dorothy Tanner; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Dorman Thomas Austin; her daughter, Phyllis McGlaun; brothers: Herman Tanner, Bennie Tanner, Donald Tanner, Buster Tanner, Marvin Tanner, Otis Tanner, Bill Tanner, and John Tanner; and one sister, Ester Tanner Dupree.
