ANDERSONVILLE – The Andersonville National Historic Site (ANHS) hosted their second annual Running Thru History 5K on April 15.
114 running enthusiasts and history buffs from all over the state of Georgia joined 19 runners from Americus to compete in the event. A few racers from other states even headed to the ANHS that morning to participate in the event.
Race participants were treated to a history lesson as they hustled to make their way to the finish line, traversing the course through the site’s vast array of historical markers and landmarks.
Buddy Davis of Gray, Ga. Was the event’s overall top finisher, followed closely Mitchell Sinyard, of Hawkinsville. Americus’ Jalen Hill took third-place honors, finishing just 11 seconds behind the first-place finisher. Chad Bell, of Americus, finished the race in fifth place.
Carson DeMille, of Macon, was the overall female winner, crossing the finish line in sixth-place overall.
Other Americus locals participating in the event were Creighton Myers, Sennica Harris, Keith Wishum, Scott Wiggins, Keelan Barkley, Clarissa Cadogan, Jason Cadogan, Carroll Wiggins, Lanier Harrison, Brandi Lunneborg, Rosemary Dupree, Ara Lunneborg, Kathleen Tucker, Dave Tucker, Tiffany Clayton, Felicia Miller, Paula Harmon, and Kasey Price.
Proceeds from the event went to the Macon County Recreation Department and the Friends of Andersonville, a group that raises funds to help support the ANHS.
