AMERICUS — Earlier this year, Georgia Southwestern State University (GSW) hosted nearly 300 Georgia high students who have aspirations to be teachers and educators for future generations.
The GSW School of Education hosted one of eight Future Georgia Educators Days sponsored by the Professional Association of Georgia Educators (PAGE).
Eric Crouch, the 2016 Milken Educator Award winner, was the event’s featured speaker. Crouch, who hails from Columbus, was one of 35 educators in the nation to receive the Milken Award recognition and the first Georgia teacher in four years to be honored.
The day was full of activities which included lessons on professionalism in education, technology in the classroom, teamwork, leadership, and more. Students also participated in a college fair. “The purpose of Future Georgia Educators Day is for the students to learn about a future career in education,” said School of Education Dean Rachel Abbott, Ph.D. “The sessions are very interactive and engaging to increase their interest and enthusiasm for the profession. They get to interact with peers from other schools who might share their interest in becoming a teacher.”
