PRESTON — The 2017 STAR Student for Webster County Schools has been announced.
Tyra Green chose James McCullough as her STAR Teacher.
Green said of her choice of McCullough, “I chose Mr. Mac as my STAR Teacher because he has taught me so much, not only in softball, but he also helped me grown into the young lady I am today. Of course, there have been good and bad times, but I can say he has been there for me every step of the way. He is one of the most selfless and kind people I know. He has made a huge impact on my life, and I will always remember him, and over these years he has change my life so much. Throughout the years from being my fourth-grade math teacher to being my 12th-grade softball coach, he has seen me grow and that is one of the reasons I am who I am today. He’s not just one of the best teachers or one of the best coaches, he is family to me.”
McCullough also commented on Green being chosen as STAR Student.
“Tyra Green is very deserving of the 2016-2017 STAR Student award. She is a young lady that I look at as one of my own children. It has been a joy watching her grow into the young woman that she has become, both inside and out of the classroom. One to never shy away from speaking her mind, she is also very quick to listen to others’ opinions and advice in order to better herself. She has balanced an extremely busy extra-curricular schedule while still maintaining extremely high marks in the classroom. Many softball games you could find her either reading or working on an accelerated math assignment to and from games. Many people today look for excuses, for reasons why they have failed, but Tyra is the exact opposite. When given every opportunity to give up and quit, she has used circumstances in her life to further grow herself and serve as a great role model for not only the Webster County School System but for her ever watching, younger sister. I am glad to have been able to play a small role in her life and look forward to a great future from a strong, determined, and intelligent young lady.”
