Americus Fire & Emergency Services

• Firefighters responded to 53 calls for medical attention.
• Firefighters responded to a traffic accident on U.S. Highway 19 South.
• Firefighters responded to an alarm at Magnolia Manor, 2001 Nursing Center Drive. There were no hazards; it was found that the pull station in the kitchen needs to be replaced/repaired.
• Firefighters responded to an alarm on South Lee Street. There were no hazards. It was found that spray painting activated the alarm.
• Firefighters responded to a traffic accident on East Forsyth Street.
• Firefighters responded to the report of a tree limb across the road on Elm Avenue. After notifying Georgia Power, they removed the limb from the power lines.
• Firefighters responded to a traffic accident at Crawford and Jefferson streets.
• Firefighters responded to a report of an outside fire on Pine Avenue where they found vegetation still smoking. The occupant had already extinguished the fire which he started to get rid of a wasp nest.
• Firefighters responded to Columbia Avenue to a report of a structure fire. They found light smoke coming from the eaves and ridge vents of the house. The occupants had extinguished the fire upon their arrival.
• Firefighters responded to Hawkins Street to a report of a structure fire. The fire, which started in the kitchen, was extinguished by Americus Police Department personnel.
• Firefighters responded to an alarm on South Hampton Street which had been activated by cooking.
• Firefighters responded to an alarm at Magnolia Manor which was canceled in route. The report states that “a disgruntled resident had pulled the alarm.” There were no hazards.
• Firefighters responded to West Hill Street and Harold Avenue where they found a small leak in a fire hydrant.
• Firefighters responded to East Lamar Street to a report of a gas odor. They found a small leak and turned it over to the city’s gas department.
• Firefighters responded to a report of a tree on a power line at Mayo and Ashby streets. They found a tree on the power line but the power pole had snapped at the top and was hanging low in the roadway. Georgia Power was notified. Fire personnel placed safety cones on the northbound lane of Mayo and right of way lane onto Mayo from Oglethorpe Avenue.
• Firefighters responded to an alarm on South Hampton Street. They were told it was activated by cooking.
• Firefighters responded to Cherokee Street where they removed a tree that had fallen across the roadway, and cut the remaining tree hanging across the sidewalk into the roadway.
• Firefighters responded to a report of a power line down at J.R. Campbell Sr. and McGarrah streets. No hazards were found.

• Simon B. Brown, 17, of 1315 First Montgomery St., Americus, two counts of felony theft by taking and two counts of possession of pistol or revolver by a minor, and was jailed.
• Curtis Burns, 67, of 1900 Roney St., Americus; reckless conduct; released on bond.
• Chakuane D. Galloway, 26, of 495 Ga. Highway 27 East, Americus; DUI, seat belt violation; misdemeanor possession of marijuana; jailed.
• Jalen T. Hill, 18, of 901 Douglas St., Americus; possession of marijuana with intent to distribute. manufacture/possess etc. controlled or counterfeit substance or marijuana near park or housing project, obstruction of law enforcement officers; jailed.
• Sayanna S. Tyson, 27, of 1430-C S. Lee St., Americus; simple battery (Family Violence Act); jailed.
• Leonardo Davinci Williams, 52, of 230 Ga. Highway 280 West, Americus; driving while license is suspended or revoked, seat belt violation, DUI, obstruction of law enforcement officers; jailed.

• Amanda L. McClendon, 26, of 115 Cartwright Road Extension, Americus, reckless driving, open container, DUI.

Arrests (April 25)
• Theodore E. Bloodworth, 31, of 247 S. Lee St., Apt. B-7, Americus, two counts of fleeing or attempting to elude a police officer for a felony offense, felony theft by taking, financial transaction card theft, probation violation, DUI, failure to stop at stop sign, speeding, failure to obey signs or control devices, driving while license is suspended or revoked, hit and run, open container, and reckless driving; jailed.
