A Plains man was seriously injured Monday afternoon in a traffic accident on U.S. Highway West near the Plains Welcome Center. According to the Georgia State Patrol Post 10, Americus, which investigated, Henry Persons Ritch, 87, of Plains, driving a 2002 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck, was traveling west on 280 when it crossed the center line and traveled into a ditch south of 280. The truck continued to travel west in the ditch before striking a culvert with its front. The truck then vaulted over a field road and came to an uncontrolled rest in a ditch south of 280, facing west. The driver was wearing his seat and shoulder restraints, according to the report, and was not ejected. He was airlifted to a Macon hospital for treatment.
