AMERICUS — The Sumter Humane Society has received a $15,000 grant from the Mattie H. Marshall Foundation to be used for medical expenses, rescue fees, and a community-wide, low-cost spay/neuter program. Although partially funded by the City of Americus and Sumter County, the Sumter Humane Society relies primarily on the generosity of the community it serves to meet its annual $260,000 budget. Without the support of the Mattie H. Marshall Foundation and other private donors, the Sumter Humane Society would be unable to provide the basic, short-term care necessary to housing, saving, and rehabilitating the roughly 2,000 homeless, unwanted, and abandoned animals that come through its doors each year.
All the funds from the Mattie H. Marshall Foundation grant will be used to provide healthy, happy cats and dogs for adoption and rescue, as well as to assist local residents with neutering their reproductively overactive pets.
The Sumter Humane Society is a 501(c)3 private organization dedicated to saving the lives and reducing the suffering of the abandoned, abused, and neglected dogs and cats of Americus and Sumter County, Georgia. Donations are welcome.
