AMERICUS — The AmeriCorps State program is a federally-funded grant that provides U.S. citizens with the opportunity to serve in their county. Georgia 4-H AmeriCorps State members works with their county extension agent in planning, developing, and delivering 4-H programming. Georgia 4-H, which has been approved for a total of three years of funding and the Sumter County Board of Commissioners, invested some funding for this position with Sumter County 4-H program. During AmeriCrops Week 2017 (March 4-11), members were recognized for their service in their communities.
Karnisha Mercer has been serving as an AmeriCorps Service member with Sumter County 4-H Club since September 2016. Georgia 4-H AmeriCorps members provide direct service to children and youth involved in 4-H programming. Mercer, a resident of Sumter County and graduate of Georgia Southwestern State University, assists Sumter County 4-H agent with local 4-H programming for youth ages 5-19.
