AMERICUS — Claudia Davenport Leonard, age 81, passed away on Friday, May 26, 2017, at Phoebe Sumter Medical Center.

A memorial service was planned for 2 p.m. on Sunday, May 28, at First United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Jerry Roe officiating.  Inurnment was to follow in the Columbarium at First United Methodist Church.

Born April 20, 1936, she was a daughter of the late Claudia Davenport Leonard and Samuel Anders Leonard. Claudia was a native of Americus and lived here most of her life.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and by her sister, Peggy L. Glover.

She was active in the First United Methodist Church her entire life. Claudia graduated from Georgia Southwestern College with an associate’s degree in English.

She leaves behind a sister, Alice Leonard Froelich of Newport News, Va.; two nieces: Fran Glover Powers and husband James of Princeton, Texas, and Elizabeth Popwell Ralston and husband Jack of Newport News, Va.; two nephews: Charles Gary Glover and wife Bunny of Valdosta, Ga., and Gary Walton Popwell Jr. of Columbia, S.C.

Claudia will be missed by her family and friends who loved her very much.
