Americus Fire & Emergency Services (May 16-30)

• Firefighters responded to 55 calls for medical assistance.
• Firefighters responded to a traffic accident on West Lamar Street.
• Firefighters responded to Rigas Road to an unauthorized burn. They found a small, smothering burn pile in the backyard. The occupant was advised of the city’s no-burn policy.
• Firefighters responded to Earl Avenue to a report of a tree down. They removed a large tree limb from the roadway.
• Firefighters responded to Rigas Road to a report of an unauthorized burn. They found a pile of burning azalea limbs in the backyard. The burner was advised of the city’s no-burn policy.
• Firefighters responded to Academy Street to an individual being locked out of her residence and she had left a pot on the stove. Fire personnel manipulated the locking mechanism on the front door and gained entry.
• Firefighters responded to West Lamar Street to a report of smoke inside the 1800 Mexican Restaurant, 329 W. Lamar St. It was determined that the kitchen vent switch had broken and light smoke filled the building. Fire personnel ventilated the structure.
• Firefighters responded to a traffic accident on West Lamar Street.
• Firefighters responded to a traffic accident on Crawford Street.
• Firefighters responded to an alarm on Armory Drive. The resident told them the alarm was activated by cooking.
• Firefighters responded to an alarm on South Hampton Street, which was determined to have been activated by cooking.
• Firefighters responded to Burger King, 922 E. Lamar St. They found the fryers to be smoking badly and the equipment was arcing and shorting. The business was closed for the night.
• Firefighters responded to a traffic accident at Bell Street and Bessie Mays Circle.
• Firefighters responded to Patton Drive to a report of power lines down. Once on scene, they found a tree that had fallen over, pulling down the wires and blocking a lane of traffic. Georgia Power was called.
• Firefighters responded to Felder Street where they observed a small tree limb hanging on a cable line. Georgia Power was notified.
• Firefighters responded to Frieda Lane to a report of a gas smell coming from inside a residence. Investigation showed no hazards and the home owner was advised the odor could be sewage.
• Firefighters responded to a smoke detector activation on Eastview Drive, which was set off by cooking.
• Firefighters stopped at a West Lester Street residence when they noticed a home owner burning leaves and plastic outside. She told them she was trying to burn a snake out of her yard. She was apprised of the city’s no-burn policy.
• Firefighters responded to a traffic accident at North Jackson Avenue and Bay Street.
• Firefighters responded to a traffic accident on East Forsyth Street.
• Firefighters responded to a traffic accident on Ashby Street.
• Firefighters responded to an alarm on Redrick Street which had been activated accidentally by a child.
• Firefighters responded to Forrest Street to a report of smoke coming from the structure. They found a breaker that had been tripped in the panel box. It was determined that a fan had arced, tripping the breaker.
• Firefighters responded to Mayo Street to a report of wires down. They found a small tree limb dangling from a larger tree, which they removed with a chain saw.
• Firefighters responded to a traffic accident on East Lamar Street.
• Firefighters responded to an alarm on South Hampton Street which had accidentally been activated by cooking.
• Firefighters responded to a report of a structure fire on Eastview Circle. They found a pot left on the stove but no fire.
• Firefighters responded to a smoke alarm on Lawson Drive, activated by cooking.
• Firefighters responded to a report of a dumpster fire on Murphy Mill Road. On arrival, they found the property owner had extinguished the fire.
• Firefighters responded to a traffic accident on Ridge Street.
• Firefighters responded to a report of a fallen tree blocking both lanes at Lakewood Street and Valley Drive. The large tree limb was moved to clear on lane of traffic.
• Firefighters responded to the same location later and removed the tree limb from the roadway.
• Firefighters responded to Second Montgomery Street to a report of a fire in the street. They found a small fire that had been set in the roadway which was a 4 x 4 pile of burning clothing. They extinguished it.
• Firefighters responded to an alarm on Felder Street. No hazards were found.
• Firefighters responded to East Lamar and Strife streets to a possible medical emergency. Nothing was found.

• Firefighters responded to Ga. Highway 49 North to a report of a vehicle fire. It was determined to be a burst radiator hose.
• Firefighters responded to a burn complaint at Tommy Hooks and Brady roads.
