(May 30-June 8)
• Firefighters responded to 58 calls for medical assistance.
• Firefighters responded to Second Montgomery Street to a report of a possible structure fire. They found smoke in the area and a small fire outside the structure underneath the kitchen window that had spread to the structure’s siding. After forcing entry, they found heavy smoke inside and a disoriented occupant sitting on top of the washing machine. They moved her outside to be checked by EMS. She told them the fire started from grease on the stove when she was cooking. She had thrown the pot outside the kitchen window.
• Firefighters responded to an alarm on Morris Drive. It was found to be a faulty alarm system in the upstairs hallway.
• Firefighters responded to a traffic accident at East Forsyth Street and Ga. Highway 27 East.
• Firefighters responded to Southerfield and Crisp drives to a report of a possible wildfire. They found a small debris fire located inside the fence of a local business. They extinguished it.
• Firefighters responded to an alarm Zaxby’s, 1204 Crawford St. No hazards were found.
• Firefighters stood by on South Lee Street for a 5k run.
• Firefighters responded to a report of a tree limb down on Roland Avenue. They found it lying in the roadway and removed all of it except the portion lying across a power line.
• Firefighters responded to an alarm on Old Andersonville Road. There was no fire but they found a faulty pull station.
• Firefighters responded to Forrest Street to an alarm. No hazards were found.
• Firefighters responded to Poplar Street to a report of water running into a house. They found no water inside the house and advised the occupant to keep the door closed.
• Firefighters responded to West College Street to a report of unknown problem. Nothing was found.
• Firefighters responded to an alarm at the City’s Utility Billing Office, 1404 E. Forsyth St. The detector was found to need cleaning.
• Firefighters responded to an alarm on Forrest Street. They found a faulty second-floor sensor.
• Firefighters responded to an oil spill at South Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and U.S. Highway 280 East. They cleaned up after a five-gallon barrel had spilled on the roadway.
• Firefighters assisted an invalid on Brookdale Drive.
• Firefighters responded to an alarm on Shirley Road; it was a faulty alarm.
• Firefighters responded to a passenger vehicle fire on Ga. Highway 27 East. They extinguished the fire which had engulfed the vehicle.
• Firefighters responded to an alarm on Forrest Street. They notified the key holder that the system had been triggered several times during the week, all false alarms.
• Firefighters responded to East Jefferson Street to a report of an arcing light fixture.
• Firefighters responded to South Hampton Street to a report of a tree limb on a power line. Georgia Power was notified.
• Firefighters responded to a traffic accident on West Forsyth Street.
• Firefighters responded to an alarm on Ridge Street. It was caused by an incorrect code being entered in the security system.
• Firefighters responded to Sun Valley Drive to a report of a power line down. They found a power line down and tree on power lines at two locations. Home owners were advised of the danger and Georgia Power was notified.
• Firefighters responded to an alarm at Americus OB-GYN Services, 205 Rees St., which was triggered by someone burning food in a microwave oven.
• Firefighters responded to a report of a tree limb blocking the roadway at Oak Avenue and West Hill Street. They removed it from the roadway.
• Firefighters responded to Murphy Mill Road to a report of a structure fire. Upon arrival, they saw light gray some coming from the structure. Someone had left a pan on the stove and it had caught fire. They ventilated the smoke.
• Firefighters responded to a traffic accident at Cotton Avenue and Lamar Street.
• Firefighters responded to an alarm twice at Magnolia Manor, 2001 S. Lee St. Both were false alarms.
• Firefighters responded to an alarm on Lynnview Drive which was activated by someone cooking.
• Firefighters responded to Academy Street to assist someone who was locked out his neighbor’s residence. The resident told fire personnel that his neighbor had notified him that she had left stove on and locked the door and requested he call 911. They gained access through the front door and found the stove was not on.
• Firefighters responded to a traffic accident in East Forsyth Street.
• Firefighters responded to the Sumter Humane Society, 108 Industrial Drive to a report of someone locking herself out and leaving the water running. They had to break into the structure after numerous attempts to contact the key holder.
• Firefighters responded to Elmo Street to a report of a structure fire. They found rags on fire in the kitchen sink and small flames coming from the back of the stove. The discovered the stove had an electrical problem.
• Firefighters were dispatched to East Glessner Street to a report on unknown trouble. No incident was found.

• Firefighters responded to an alarm on Quail Drive. There was no fire.
• Firefighters stood by at the South Georgia Technical College gym for a meeting.
• Firefighters responded to a traffic accident at U.S. Highway 19 North and South Georgia Tech Parkway.

Arrest (May 18)
• Alexander Harvey, 27, of Omaha; probation violation; released to another jail.
