Ellaville residents travel to New York
On June 2, a group of residents from Ellaville joined others for a trip to New York City organized by Patti Wurtz and Joyce Owsley.
Kathy Bruer, Keeley Bruer and Mitzi Way left on June 1 for Atlanta to spend the night in the Hilton Garden Inn before flying out early the next morning. They arrived at the airport at 6:30 a.m. for their departure. Once they arrived at La Guardia Airport, they met their escort, D.J., originally from New York, but now living in Orlando, Florida.
After arriving in the city, they went directly to Chelsea Market for lunch. They bought themselves some chocolate dessert for their touring. They left for the Highline Elevated Park, originally a rail line. Kathy said it was so pretty with flowers along the railway. They went to Washington Square Park and then to China Town for shopping. They later had dinner at Little Italy — Margarita Pizza and Chicken Parmesan. After dinner, they went to Ferrara’s for canoli to bring home.
On Saturday morning they visited Rockefeller Center and St. Patrick’s Cathedral, then on to Radio City Music Hall where they had photos taken with the famed Rockettes. After lunch they toured Central Park and the Metropolitan Museum of Art where they found the Egyptian tombs very exciting to see. They had dinner at the Grand Central Terminal, before catching a show, “On Your Feet,” the story of Gloria Estefan.
On Sunday they returned to the Rockefeller Center and shopped on Fifth Avenue which was blocked off for a parade. They visited Tiffany’s, among others. After lunch, they caught a Broadway show, “School of Rock.”
The entire group, roughly 47 people, all had dinner together at Southern Hospitality that night. They convinced D.J., the guide, to let them go to Junior’s for cheesecake, which was a real big treat for all. Then they went to Top of the Rock which is a spectacular view of New York’s skyline.
On Monday morning, they visited the Statue of Liberty, which they found amazing. Kathy said you can’t imagine how big it is until you see it. She said as you approach from the ferry, you get chill bumps just thinking how immigrants must have felt coming into harbor and seeing this huge statue. Then they went through the financial district, including seeing the bull statue and Trinity Church. They had lunch at Cafe Exchange, which is a smorgasbord of anything you could possibly want to eat. Afterwards, they visited the 911 Memorial which they found touching and emotional.
They all returned  home on June 5.

William Jordan has returned from hospital
Everyone in Ellaville and Schley County are happy to learn that William Jordan has come home from the hospital.
He returned home June 13 from Navicent Health Cente in Macon after having been treated for and recovering from an accident. His mother Gloria said thank you for all your prayers and please continue to keep William in your prayers.
Prayers have brought William out of critical condition and back home. Let’s all continue to pray for William and his family.

Ellaville Methodist Church visits Perfect Care
The Ellaville United Methodist Church Choir sang at Perfect Care in Americus on June 1.
Wayne Morrow Sr. played his harmonica for the residents. Those who went and sang were Judy McClellan, Wayne and Nora Morrow, Sharon Wall, Darlene Lewis, Olivia Mallichek and the Rev. Jonathan Beckum, who closed the visit with prayers.

Ellaville’s new Dollar General holds Grand Opening
On June 10, Ellaville’s new Dollar General Plus held its Grand Opening Ceremony with a ribbon cutting at 7 a.m. Dollar General has expanded a lot by moving into the former Walmart Market in Ellaville.
John Blevin, store manager, cut the ribbon and  District Manager Deborah Santori was present for the ceremony. Blevin said it’s wonderful to have such large space and more merchandise to offer customers.
Kellogg’s Tony the Tiger was at the ceremony as well. The staff served coffee in the morning and hot-dogs and popcorn at lunch. WLEL Radio had an all-day remote and served pizza from the Pizza Place in Ellaville.
Dollar General Plus has a wide variety of groceries and a lot more merchandise on hand. It sells gasoline as well.

Ellaville Lions Club holds fishing rodeo
Ellaville’s Lions Club annual Fishing Rodeo Tournament was recently held at Bobby Miller’s Pond.
Ellaville Lion’s President Chad Childs presented the awards and trophies to the children in the ages 2-7 category and ages 8-15 category. There was a trophy for the largest fish caught in the tournament and one for the most fish caught and the youngest fisherman.
The largest fish that was caught was by Jaycee Felker, weighing 5 lbs. and 10 oz. The most fish caught in the younger group was won by Gunter Dollar, age 7, who caught 40 fish. The most fish caught in the 8-15 group was Wyatt Halstead who caught 40 fish. The youngest fisherman was Colby Dollar.
