AMERICUS — Ms. Brenda Kay Owens, 51, of Americus, passed away on Friday, June 23, 2017, at Phoebe Sumter Medical Center after an extended illness. Graveside services were held at 11 a.m. on Monday, June 26, 2017, in the Ebenezer Baptist Church cemetery with the Rev. Robert Orr officiating. The family greeted friends from 6-8 p.m. Sunday, June 25 at Watson-Giddens Funeral Home.

Ms. Owens was born on July 16, 1975, to Ronald David “Buddy” and Gloria Lawhorn Owens in Sumter County, Ga. She worked in the manufacturing business. She enjoyed cooking, gardening, and antique shopping. She loved animals, especially chickens, and spending time with her family. She was of the Baptist faith.

Survivors, in addition to her parents, include her daughter, Jennifer Owens Raines (Jacob) of Americus, Ga.; two sisters, Janet Long (Mark) of Americus, Linda Owens of Andersonville, Ga.; one brother, Johnny Owens (Teresa) of Ellaville; two grandchildren, Madison Raines, Brenna Raines; and one step grandchild, Seth Raines. Several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews also survive.

Watson-Giddens Funeral Home of Ellaville, Ga., is in charge of arrangements.
