AMERICUS – Sumter Cycling has recently announced that the organization will be teaming up with the Plains Peanut Festival and the SAM Shortline Train to offer a new major ride this year.
The ride includes a 40-plus mile option which will begin Georgia Veterans State Park and a 14-mile option that will begin in Americus. Not only will participants get to experience the beautiful riding roads and the parks, they will also have the opportunity to enjoy the Plains Peanut Festival, which former president, Jimmy Carter, will be attending; and a ride on the Sam Shortline Excursion Train, which will carry riders back to their automobiles.
Sumter Cycling will also be offering a Plains loop ride of about 10 miles from the Jimmy Carter museum (historic high school) to his boyhood farm and back. Both are National Historic Sites kept by the National Park Service. This is perfect for those who want to run the Peanut Festival 5k in the morning.
