LAKE CHARLES, La. — Ms. Laverne Watson Moncrief, 90, passed away July 6, 2017, at Lake Charles Memorial Hospital in Lake Charles, Louisiana. The family will receive friends from 1-3 p.m. on July 15, 2017, at First Assembly of God in Americus, Ga. The service will begin at 3 p.m. with the Rev. Noel Culver officiating. Interment will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens.

Laverne was born Sept.14, 1926, in Americus, Ga. She was born to the late Joseph Rufus Watson and Evie Lorene Todd Watson. She worked at Manhattan Shirt Co. as a pocket setter for 35 years.

Survivors include three daughters: Phyllis Jean Spradley (Donnie) of Ellaville, Marcia Kaye Law of Americus, Rebecca Estelle McKenzie of Dawson, Ga.; three sisters: Peggy Ann Martinez of Americus, Velma Mae Watson of Americus, Sandra Elaine Washburn (Danny) of Americus; one brother, Phillip Wayne Watson (Pat) of Cuthbert, Ga.; one sister-in-law, Ann Watson; eight  grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband James Loydd Moncrief, a son Mark Moncrief, a sister Alma Lorene Barbaree, a brother Rufus Jackson Watson and a great-grandson Nicholas Widner.
