AMERICUS — Sumter County 4-H’ers participated in the annual MilkMake Competition, sponsored by the Southeast United Dairy Industry. MilkMake is a 4-H food and nutrition activity for Cloverleaf 4-H members. Each participant submitted an original recipe of their milk drink. The top three recipes selected were invited to Sumter County 4-H MilkMake Showdown at Sumter County Extension office. The MilkMake Showdown participants were Julia Floyd, Dilan Hudson and Zachary Hudson.  Participants developed skills in food preparation and in making creative milk drinks. They also learn more about the nutritional value and versatility of milk.
The first-place winning milk drink recipe was the “Tropical Smoothie” by Zachary Hudson, a sixth-grade    4-H’er from Sumter County Intermediate School. Second-place winning milk drink was “Jungle Jam Smoothie” by Dilan Hudson, a fifth-grade 4-H’er from Sumter County Intermediate School. The third-place milk drink was “A Nutritional Creamy Delight” by Julia Floyd, a fifth-grade 4-H’er from Sumter County Intermediate School.
Mitzi Parker, Family and Consumer Sciences Extension agent, and Dorcas Reyes, Expanded Food and Nutrition Education Program assistant were the judges for the competition. Each competitor received a participation ribbon and MilkMake t-shirt.  4-H’ers will receive special recognition and awards during the 4-H awards ceremony in August 2017.
