ASU Golden Rams named to 2017 SIAC preseason football team

ATLANTA – The Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) announced its 2017 SIAC Football Preseason All-Conference team on Tuesday during media day at the College Football Hall of Fame. Albany State offensive lineman Tedrick Cofield, linebacker Zavondric Shingleton, and safety Nick Scott received preseason honors.
Cofield, a 6’3”, 315 lb. senior from Atlanta, was a member of the 2016 SIAC All-Conference first team. Cofield led the offensive line that helped Albany State generate 2,918 total yards and 23 touchdowns in 2016.
Shingleton, a 6’4”, 210 lb. senior from Millen, Ga., collected 51 tackles (30 solos) during the 2016 season. He also had two quarterback hurries, a pass breakup, a fumble recovery and a forced fumble. Shingleton had a season-high 11 tackles (eight solos) against Miles College on Oct. 1.
Scott, a 6’0”, 205-lb senior from Ellabell, Ga., recorded 48 tackles (36 solos), including 4.5 for a loss of 15 total yards. He also had six pass breakups and two interceptions against Southeastern University last year. Scott had a team high seven tackles against Clark Atlanta University on Oct. 22.
Albany State was selected as the preseason favorite in the East Division with 65 points and six first-place votes. Fort Valley State earned 55 points, followed by Benedict (52), Clark Atlanta (42), and Morehouse (26).
Tuskegee was picked to win the West Division with 75 points and 11 first-place votes in the preseason poll. Miles (60) was voted second ahead of Kentucky State (48), Lane (37), and Central State (21).
