AMERICUS — The collective impact of Cyber Security and Identity Theft is staggering. Billions of dollars are lost every year repairing systems hit by such attacks. Some take down vital systems, disrupting and sometimes disabling the work of hospitals, banks, and 9-1-1 services around the country.
Who is behind such attacks? It runs the gamut — from computer geeks looking for bragging rights … to businesses trying to gain an upper hand in the marketplace by hacking competitor websites, from rings of criminals wanting to steal your personal information and sell it on black markets … to spies and terrorists looking to rob our nation of vital information or launch cyber strikes.
Join us for a Chamber Membership Luncheon focused on Cyber Security and Identity Theft featuring keynote speaker FBI Resident Agent in Charge Chris Bush on Wednesday, Aug. 2 at the Rees Park Economic Development Center, 409 Elm Ave., Americus. The cost of the luncheon is $20 for members and $25 for non-members. The Sumter County Chamber’s Business Development and Membership Divisions begin the luncheon with a Business Expo beginning at 11:15 a.m. with the program to follow at noon.
Agent Chris Bush grew up in Sparks, and graduated from Valdosta State University with a bachelor of arts degree in criminal justice. After graduation, he worked for the Georgia Bureau of Investigations, and was assigned to the State Drug Task Force, where he worked in an undercover capacity buying illegal narcotics.
Bush began his career with the U.S. Secret Service in March 1999, in New York City, N.Y. He transferred from the New York field office to the Vice Presidential Protective Division located in Washington, D.C., in July 2004.
After four years on the Vice Presidential Protective Division, Bush transferred to Secret Service Headquarters, and was assigned to the Office of Protective Operations. In January 2010, he was transferred to the Albany, Ga., Resident Office and has spent 3 1/2 years conducting criminal investigations (mainly white-collar crimes) in the South Georgia area.
In August 2013, Bush was promoted to the Resident Agent In Charge, and now oversees all criminal investigations in the Albany Division, which consists of 42 Counties in Georgia.
