Block party shooting leaves 1 dead

AMERICUS  — A weekend shooting ended in the death of one of the victims and the suspect turning himself in on Monday morning.
Police and first responders were summoned to the 500 block of Bell Street at 5:40 p.m. Saturday to a report of a shooting. Two victims were taken by ambulance to Phoebe Sumter Medical Center.
Bradley Jamal Green, 22, of Americus was pronounced dead at the hospital. The other victim, Rodney Jereome Greene, 23, of 213 Walnut Drive, Americus, was treated at the hospital and taken into custody. He is charged with reckless conduct and giving false statements to law enforcement. He was jailed.
Kentavous Cortez Williams, 22, of Americus, the suspect in the shooting, fled the scene and was being sought by authorities.
Williams turned himself in at the Americus Police Department at approximately 10 a.m. Monday. He is charged with felony murder, two counts of aggravated assault, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony. He is currently being housed at the Sumter County Jail.
According to investigators, the shooting occurred during a “reunion block party” in a park area off Bell Street. The event featured tents and grills for barbecuing.
The incident was investigated jointly by the Americus Police Department and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation. Americus Police Chief Mark Scott said in a press release Monday afternoon that more charges may be forthcoming as the investigation into the incident continues.
Funeral arrangements for Bradley Green are being handled by Barnum Funeral Home Inc. in Americus.
