Windsor to mark 125 years with gala

AMERICUS — The Historic Best Western Plus Windsor Hotel will host a 125th anniversary celebration gala on Sept. 16 with part of the proceeds used to beautify downtown Americus.
The event, which runs from 6 to 10 p.m., will be sponsored by the Windsor Hotel and Cousins Catering.
The dress code will be Victorian 1890s to Roaring 1920s. Inspired attire is suggested, or black tie.
Tickets are $125 per ticket per person. Packages are $357.35, which includes a one-night hotel stay and two tickets per couple. Entertainment, food, wine and beer are included. Space is limited. Call 229-924-1555, ext. 2 for reservations.
The Georgia Southwestern State University Dramatic Arts Department will offer entertainment throughout the evening. Costumed characters will interact with guests. A cavalcade of historical figures, including Charles Lindbergh; Al Capone; Shoeless Joe Jackson; and President Franklin D. Roosevelt, who have stayed or presented at the Windsor, may be on hand.
The GSW Music Department will provide tunes from the 1890s era. A harpist also will perform.
A Victorian-themed menu throughout the evening will be served.
The historic hotel, the crown jewel of downtown Americus and southwest Georgia, officially opened on June 16, 1892 as thousands of guests mingled in celebration. Today, the Windsor remains the icon of the city.
