Americus Fire & Emergency Services

(June 23-30 and July 1-12)
• Firefighters responded to 62 calls for medical assistance.
• Firefighters responded to Poplar Street to a report of a possible structure fire. No smoke or fire were visible. The occupant told them her power went off when she cut her air on. They found a flipped breaker. They re-flipped it and power was restored.
• Firefighters responded to a traffic accident at East Lamar and Tripp streets.
• Firefighters responded to smoke detector activation on Brown Street. It was a false alarm.
• Firefighters responded to East Forsyth Street to a report from someone who said they heard a child screaming at the duplex building behind. Nothing was found.
• Firefighters responded to Earl Street to a report of a structure fire. They found the motor in the range hood had overheated and melted the plastic fan blades.
• Firefighters responded to Felder Street to a report of a gas odor. The gas department was called to the scene.
• Firefighters responded to East Jefferson Street to an alarm sounding. The occupant told them when she turned her stove on she heard a pop and saw smoke coming from it so she turned it off. They found that the heating element in the stove had gone out and advised her to call an electrician.
• Firefighters responded to Swett Avenue to a report of a possible gas leak. Upon arrival, the gas department was already on the scene.
• Firefighters responded to an alarm on Tom Hall Circle which was activated by cooking.
• Firefighters responded to Lewis Lowe Court to a report of a gas odor inside the residence. No hazards were found.
• Firefighters responded to a possible gas leak on Hosanna Circle. No hazards were found. The occupant requested the gas be cut off and the gas department be notified.
• Firefighters responded to Forrest Street to a report of a tree on a house. They noted a large tree limb through the roof on one side of a duplex. They advised the homeowner to keep the electricity off until the limb could be removed.
• Firefighters responded to Matt Hart Drive to a report of a strange odor. They used a detector inside the house which indicated gas. They cut off the gas and notified the gas department.
• Firefighters responded to a smoke detector at Phoebe Sumter Medical Center, 126 U.S. Highway 19. It was determined the detector was activated by ongoing reconstruction.
• Firefighters responded to Morris Drive to a report of an odor in the area. No hazards were found.
• Firefighters responded to Forrest Street to a transformer in fire. Georgia Power was contacted.
• Firefighters responded to a smoke detector activation on East Glessner Street, which was a result of cooking and burning food.
• Firefighters responded to a report of a possible structure fire on Barlow Street. Nothing was found.
• Firefighters responded to a dumpster fire on Ga. Highway 27 East. They extinguished it.
• Firefighters responded to a tree limb in the roadway at East Church and Brown streets. The call was canceled.
• Firefighters responded to a large tree limb on the roadway on Elizabeth Street, which they removed.
• Firefighters responded to an alarm on New Street. Nothing was found.
• Firefighters responded to an alarm at the Windsor Hotel, 125 W. Lamar St. No hazards were found.
• Firefighters responded to a traffic accident at East Lamar and Tripp streets.
• Firefighters responded to an alarm on Madison Street, which was accidentally activated by cooking.
• Firefighters responded to a report of a possible structure fire on Pecan Drive. Occupants said they saw a small arch from the ceiling fan and smelled something burning. No hazards were found and occupants were advised to contact an electrician.
• Firefighters responded to Brooklyn Terrace to a report of a wire down. They found a cable line lying low in the roadway. Mediacom was notified.
• Firefighters responded to Felder and Harris streets to a leaking fire hydrant.
• Firefighters responded to an alarm on Harris Street. There was no fire; occupant had used wrong code on her alarm.
• Firefighters responded to Martin Marietta Street and Industrial Drive after a passerby noticed smoke on the roadside. Fire personnel found a towel smoking beside the road.
• Firefighters went to Sharon Drive to help a resident change batteries in smoke detectors.
• Firefighters responded to trouble unknown calls on Poplar Street and Hickory Drive, but the calls were canceled.
• Firefighters responded to a traffic accident at East Forsyth and Mayo streets.
• Firefighters responded to South Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard to a vehicle fire. The owner had put in oil when the car began smoking. Fire personnel ascertained that two sparkplug wires were worn and had rubbed together producing smoke.

• Firefighters responded to four calls for medical assistance.
• Firefighters responded to an alarm on U.S. Highway 280 West. The call was cancelled while en route by the alarm company.
• Firefighters responded to Fox Stephens Road to a report of a possible structure fire. All units were cancelled.
• Firefighters responded twice to Logan Store Road and Ga. Highway 49 South to a report of a tree in the roadway.
• Firefighters responded to a traffic accident at Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and U.S. Highway 280 West.
• Firefighters responded to an alarm three times at Lillian Carter Health & Rehabilitation, 225 Hospital St. in Plains activated by a system malfunction.
• Firefighters responded to District Line Road to a report of a utility line over the roadway.
• Firefighters responded to Southwestern Circle to a report of a traffic accident.
