SGTC commercial truck driving program expanding

AMERICUS — South Georgia Technical College (SGTC) commercial truck driving instructor,  Robert Cook and his instructors are expanding the SGTC commercial truck driving program to include day and evening classes in Americus and Cordele as well as specialized contract training for businesses and industries.
Ryan Barton, who is teaching commercial truck driving classes for South Georgia Tech in Cordele this summer and fall semester conducted specialized training for the City of Cordele recently to help them with their pre-trip certification training. The college put together a plan to meet the needs of the City of Cordele and its employees as part of a contract training agreement. The City of Cordele was able to achieve its goals of training in a single day and allow its employees to gain the skills needed to fulfill their job duties.
Financial aid is available for HOPE grant eligible individuals interested in enrolling in the commercial truck driving program in both Americus and Cordele. The HOPE Career Grant will add up to $1,000 in additional financial aid for HOPE grant eligible individuals who sign up.
The SGTC program is designed to address the needs of the trucking industry in Georgia. It provides basic training in the principles and skills of commercial truck operations. Day classes are held from 8 a.m.-3 p.m. Monday through Friday. While completing road trips, classes may last later than 3 p.m. The length of the program is approximately eight weeks. Evening classes are also available.
