AMERICUS — A moment of distraction for a driver resulted in three injuries this past weekend.
According to the Georgia State Patrol Post 10, Americus, which investigated, the accident occurred between 2:30 and 2:45 p.m. Sunday on Ga. Highway 49 North, just before Airport Road.
Paul McDougald, 62, of Americus, driving a 2007 Chevrolet Malibu, was traveling north on 49 when he looked down for a moment and ran off the roadway, ending up in the ditch. The car overturned twice, ejecting one of the passengers, Betty Austin of Americus, who was airlifted to a Macon hospital where she was in stable condition Monday afternoon. McDougald and another passenger, Minnie Austin of Americus, were also injured, and taken by EMS to Phoebe Sumter Medical Center for treatment.
While McDougald was not charged, he was given a warning for distracted driving and failure to maintain lane, according to the trooper who investigated the wreck.
