Blue Tide swimmers excel in state championship in Atlanta; DeMott takes gold

ATLANTA –Antony DeMott, of the Americus Blue Tide (ABT) recently won the 14-and-under boys’ 50-meter freestyle event at the 2017 Georgia 14-and-under long course championships held at the Georgia Tech Aquatic Center. He now joins the ranks of other illustrious Blue Tide sprinters including Olympian Angel Myers McGuire as a state champion.
DeMott set a Blue Tide team record of 24.73 on his way to earning the gold medal, leaving the top Atlanta teams in his wake. DeMott also earned two silver medals in the 100-meter freestyle event (53.84), also a team record, and the 100-meter butterfly event (59.80). For those Blue Tide swimming scholars, these are the events in which Myers McGuire excelled.
The Blue Tide earned the fifth-place spot in the small team’s division with more great performances and best times swum by Allison Bell (100-meter butterfly, backstroke, and freestyle events as well as the 50-meter freestyle event and the 200-meter individual medley), Lynnsey Bell (200-meter butterfly event), and Landry Liston (50 and 100-meter breaststroke events).
Prior to the championship round, the ABT completed the City of Atlanta Dolphins Diversity Invitational with a surprise fourth-place finish in the team scoring.
Among the ABT’s top individual high point winners in each age group were: Lanna Bell (8-and-under girls), Lynnsey Bell (11-12 year-old girls), Tissa Evans (11-12 year-old girls), Alison Bell (13-14 year-old girls) and Antony DeMott (13-14 year-old boys).

From there, the Blue Tide journeyed to the ATAC Long Course Open in Tallahassee, Fla., where Lanna Bell once again earned high point honors in her age group. Landry Liston picked up her first state championship qualifying time with a 1:53.13 in the 10-and-under girls 100-meter breaststroke event.
Alison Bell added one more event to her list for the state championships, recording a 1:04.98 in the 13-14 year-old girls 100-meter freestyle event.
At the Hurricane Qualifier in Columbus, a last opportunity to qualify for the state championships, Landry Liston picked up her second state qualifying time in the 10-and-under girls 50-meter breaststroke event, completing the race with a time of 50.86.
Fall registration is currently underway.
