AMERICUS — In appreciation of the Americus-Sumter County Chamber of Commerce’s Platinum Trustees and past chairmen, the board of directors hosted a special excursion train of the SAM Shortline on May 3 to thank the trustees and previous chairs for their continued support and increased financial contributions to the Chamber and its programs. “Trains and Trustees,” was the first event of its kind, taking the Chamber’s leadership and highest investors from the Church Street Depot in Americus through the southeastern end of the county to stop for the sunset dinner and program on Lake Blackshear.
Current Chairman Jay Roberts (Georgia Power Company) thanked guests for their continued support. “Let me say thank you for being here and investing of yourselves well above and beyond what we ask of our members,” he said. “It is your financial support and leadership that drives this Chamber every year and has allowed us the flexibility to work on the strategy about how we might better provide our business community with a greater return on investment in 2017. We want to truly express our gratitude for your efforts and take a few moments to acknowledge each of you here tonight.”
By investing above the standard rates of most Chamber members, Platinum Trustees enable the Chamber to provide additional benefits to the community through annual educational scholarships to GED students at South Georgia Technical College and deserving high school students looking to expand their educational horizons at a college of their choice upon graduation.
The Chamber’s Platinum Trustees are:  Air Evac LifeTeam, AT&T, BarNETt Computers, Citizens Bank of Americus, City of Americus, Clinic Drug Store, Concentra Solutions, Georgia Power Company, Georgia Southwestern State University, Habitat for Humanity, Heart of Georgia Railroad, Magnolia Manor, MedSpa of Americus, Imerys Refractory Minerals, Parker’s Heating and Air, PharmaCentra, Phoebe Sumter Medical Center, Rotary Club of Americus, SB&T Bank, South Georgia Technical College, Sumter EMC, The Staffing People and Williams Office Equipment.
“Trains and Trustees” also served as the launching for the Chamber’s new Chairman’s Advisory Council. The Chairman’s Advisory Council is compiled of the Chamber’s past chairs with the mission to serve as a resource for the Chamber board of directors in their efforts guiding the Chamber in 2017, as well into future years. Their leadership, experience and expertise are vital to the organization and to the greater Sumter County business community. As this program rolls out, the Advisory Council will provide guidance and direction to new Chamber programs, fundraising opportunities and special events, creating greater return on investment for the Chamber’s members and the businesses and industry of Sumter County.
