AMERICUS — Mr. Edwin Durham “Buddy” Thayer, age 73, passed away on Saturday evening, Aug. 19, 2017, at his home in Americus.

Funeral services are planned for 11 a.m. on Monday, Aug, 21, from the grave side at Oak Grove Cemetery. The Rev. Hugh DeLoach will officiate.

A visitation will be held from 10-10:45 a.m. on Monday at Hancock Funeral Home, 427 S. Lee St.

A native of Sumter County, Mr. Thayer was born Sept. 17, 1943, the only child of the late George Edwin Thayer and Mattie Durham Thayer.

A graduate of the University of Georgia, he held a bachelor’s degree in business administration and a master’s degree in education. He had worked as a school teacher and an employment interviewer for the Georgia Department of Labor. Mr. Thayer was retired as an auditor from the Georgia Department of Revenue. He was a member of Central Baptist Church, and he dearly loved his pet dogs.

Mr. Thayer was preceded in death by his parents, and is survived by a number of cousins.
