AMERICUS — South Georgia Technical College’s (SGTC) cosmetology program has been recognized as one of the best in the nation by The Best Colleges (TheBestColleges.org), a reputable resource for higher education information. The site released its annual rankings for the 2017-2018 and ranked South Georgia Technical College as the 23rd best cosmetology program in the nation. This is the second year in a row that the Cosmetology program has been recognized as a top performing program.
It has been a lifetime passion of mine to teach cosmetology,” said program instructor Dorothea Lusane-McKenzie, who has been at the helm of the program for over 10 years. “I am grateful and appreciative for this recognition. I try to instill the importance of work ethics to my students,” she explained.
“I tell my students that if they pass all three semesters of my program, they will pass the state board, but what will really set them apart from others will be their work ethics, and that will allow them to have continued success in their careers,” said Lusane-McKenzie.
The Best Colleges compiles the annual list of recognized and reputable schools in order to help students find the best fit for their needs.
The top 50 programs were determined by using a value-based methodology that analyzes four main data points and puts an emphasis on affordability.
