John B. Colston: Aug. 27, 2017

AMERICUS — John Bruce Colston, age 62, of Americus, died Sunday, Aug. 27, 2017, surrounded by his loving family. He was born Dec. 9, 1954, in Dublin, Ga. He was the son of the late Alvin Layton Colston Jr. and is survived by his mother, Anne Colston. Bruce attended First Baptist Church of Americus. He was an avid tennis player, a volunteer Red Coat at Phoebe Sumter Medical Center and a member of the Pi Kappa Phi fraternity at Georgia Southwestern State University. Bruce worked as an Information technology specialist in Houston, Texas, and later worked with underprivileged children at a tennis center in Houston, Texas. Locally he worked with Visions for Sumter and at the Brickyard golf plantation.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 29, 2017, at First Baptist Church with the Rev. Keith Parks and the Rev. Wade Miller officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service, from 10-11 a.m., at First Baptist Church. Honorary pallbearers include the Phoebe Sumter Auxiliary. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to League of the Good Samaritan, Magnolia Manor, 2001 S. Lee St., Americus GA 31709 or to First Baptist Church, 221 S. Lee St., Americus GA  31709.

Survivors in addition to his mother, Anne Colston of Americus, include a sister and brother-in-law, SuAnn and Mike Bird of Americus; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Keith and Connie Colston of Blounts Creek, N.C., and Greg and Sheila Colston of Brooks; and several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
