Anna P. Bliss: Sept. 11, 2017

ATHENS — Anna Pollock Bliss, resident of Athens, passed away Monday, Sept. 11, 2017.

 

Born on Dec. 30, 1937, in Leslie, Georgia, she was the daughter of the late James Aaron and Walter Mae Pollock. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Della Parrish and her grandson, Luke Bliss.

 

Ann graduated from Albany High School in 1956, and the University of Georgia in 1960. While at Georgia she was a member of Alpha Omicron Pi sorority. She, her daughter and granddaughters became the first three-generational family in the Lambda Sigma chapter. As a resident of Americus, Georgia, she was a teacher of English and Latin, retiring from Southland Academy in 1998. She served as treasurer of the Hat and Hoe Garden Club for many years, and enjoyed travelling and cheering for her beloved Georgia Bulldogs.  She was often found with a crossword puzzle in her hand, and was active in each of the churches she attended in her life.

 

She was married on April 30, 1960, to her surviving husband, Dwight L. “Bucky” Bliss Jr. Survivors in addition to her husband, include her daughter, Lisa McMichael and husband Allen of Dublin, Ga.; and her son Trey Bliss, and wife Cheri of Athens, Ga. She is survived by five granddaughters: Bliss McMichael, Blair McMichael, Audrey Bliss, Brooke Bliss, and Anna Grace Bliss. She is also survived by her sister, Jamie Farmer of Albany, Ga.

 

Memorial services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, Sept. 18, 2017, at St. Stephens Anglican Catholic Church.

 

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to St. Stephens Anglican Church in Athens, Ga.; St. Mary’s Hospice House in Watkinsville, Ga.; Magnolia Manor in Americus, Ga., or the charity of your choice.
