AMERICUS — Mr. Clarence A. “Lonnie” Downs, age 87, passed away Friday, Sept. 15, 2017, at his residence. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Monday, Sept. 18, 2017, in the chapel of Aldridge Funeral Services. The Rev. Clifford Braxton will officiate. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens. The family received friends from 10 a.m. until service time Monday, Sept. 18, 2017, at Aldridge Funeral Services and other times the residence of James and Michelle Doggett, 237 Clements Road, Americus.

Mr. Downs was born April 2, 1930, in Junction City, Ga., son of the late Fredrick Downs and the late Gordene Alred Downs. He was a retired engineer from the Department of Transportation. Mr. Downs was a devoted family man and a member of Unity Christian Fellowship church in Ellaville, Ga.

Survivors include his wife Catherine Downs of Americus; four daughters and sons-in-law, Patricia Hatcher of Tampa, Fla., Sharon Pittman (Bruce) of Tampa, Fla., Jean Nkwenti of Springfield, Mo., and Pamela Terry (Randy) of Moultrie, Ga.; a son and daughter-in-law, James Doggett (Michelle) of Americus. A brother Wayne Downs of Macon, Ga., 10 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren also survive.

Mr. Downs was preceded in death by two sisters Gloria Bush and Annette Scott and a brother Fred Downs.
