MONTGOMERY, Ala. — Dylan Marshall scored in the 75th minute, for his third goal of the season, but it wasn’t enough to complete the comeback on Sept. 16 night as the Georgia Southwestern men’s soccer team suffered its first loss of the season, 2-1, at Faulkner University.
The Hurricanes fell to 3-1-1 overall this fall, while Faulkner remains undefeated at 5-0-1.
Renan de Sousa put the home team on top in the 23rd minute and the Eagles held on to their one-goal advantage through the halftime break. The decisive score came in the 67th minute when George Redwin found the back of the net to put Faulkner ahead, 2-0.
Marshall sprinted down left side of field with the ball eight minutes later, took his shot before the defense could get set, and drilled a shot into the upper right 90 to put GSW on the board, but the Hurricanes could manage only one more shot the rest of the way.
Faulkner finished with a slim 6-4 advantage in shots on goal. GSW goalkeeper Joshua Swift saved four. Cail Calado turned away three for Faulkner. Faulkner held a 5-3 advantage in corner kicks and GSW committed four more fouls (15-11).
Up next, GSW travels to Cochran, Ga., on Sept. 20 for a 7:30 p.m. match against Middle Georgia State University.
