AMERICUS — Mrs. Doris Dowdey McCrary, age 87, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, Sept. 26, 2017, at Magnolia Manor Nursing Center.

 

Born Aug. 21, 1930, in Leslie, she was a daughter of the late Willis N. and Lovella T. Dowdey. Mrs. McCrary was a homemaker and a bookkeeper, and was retired from the Life Insurance Company of Georgia. She attended Central Baptist Church as long as her health allowed.

She was preceded in death in 2005, by her husband, Clyde C. McCrary; in 2004, by a sister, Florence Leviner; and by her parents.

Survivors include two sons: Nelson and Faye McCrary and Donnie McCrary, all of Americus; one grandson, Chris McCrary and wife Liz; and three great-grandchildren: Jacob, Erin and Matthew, all of Cartersville, Ga.; one sister, Myrtle Britt and husband Coley of Pitts; one brother, Rufus “Sonny” Dowdey and wife Louise of Americus; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Funeral services are planned for 2 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 28, from the graveside at Sunset Memorial Gardens.  Dr. Bryan Myers and the Rev. Hugh DeLoach will officiate.

The family will be greeting visitors between the hours of 7 and 9 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 27, at Hancock Funeral Home, 427 S. Lee St.
