AMERICUS — Ms. Carol Cartwright Compton, 72, of Leslie, Ga., passed away Tuesday, Oct. 10, 2017, at Phoebe Sumter Medical Center. Graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 14, 2017, at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Americus, Ga. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 13, 2017, at the residence of Adalyn Wilson, 195 E. Federal St., Leslie, Ga.

Ms. Compton was born on May 6, 1945, in Americus, Ga., to the late Raymond Whitman and the late Billie Joyce Franklin Whitman. She was an occupational health nurse at Textron for 24 years. She retired from Sumter Regional as their first hospice nurse.  She was a Baptist by faith. Ms. Compton also belonged to the Order of the Eastern Star.

Survivors include: her daughter, Angie Wilson of Leslie, Ga.; her son, Brian Cartwright; a sister, Kaye James (Randall), of Ranger, Ga.; two brothers, Ray Whitman (Nancy) of Grayson, Ga., and Jay Whitman of Ranger, Ga.; four grandchildren, Dallas Arnold of Leslie, Ga., Davis Gandy, Morgan Gandy and Madelyn Gandy of Thomasville, Ga.; and also, many nieces and nephews.

Ms. Compton was preceded in death by her husband, Keith Cartwright.
