AMERICUS — Mr. Ernest William Fussell Jr., 83, of Americus, Ga., passed away Wednesday, Oct. 11, 2017, at Magnolia Manor in Americus, Ga. A funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. Friday, Oct. 13, 2017, in the chapel of Aldridge Funeral Services. The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. until the service begins, in the chapel. The Rev. Clay Thomas, the Rev. Mark Carter and the Rev. Dr. Dennis Stalvey will officiate.

Mr. Fussell was born on May 27, 1934, in Lee County, Leesburg, Ga., to the late Ernest William Fussell Sr. and the late Rosa Gattis Fussell. He retired from the CSX Railroad where he worked as a Trainman. He was a volunteer conductor for SAM Shortline. He was a member of Plains Baptist Church and was of the Baptist faith. Mr. Fussell also served in the United States Air Force.

Survivors include: his wife, Betty Fussell of Americus, Ga.; a daughter, Connie Gurley (Mike) of Americus, Ga.; a son, Jeff Fussell (Susie) of Americus, Ga.; a sister, Joyce Smith (Julian) of Americus, Ga.; four grandchildren: Kate Fussell of Americus, Ga., Adam Fussell of Smyrna, Ga., Hoyt and Brock Gurley of Americus, Ga., and a number of nieces and nephews.

Mr. Fussell was preceded in death by his sister, Christine Smith.
