Southland cross country teams excel at state meet

STATESBORO – The Southland Academy Junior Varsity girls’ and boys’ cross country teams recently competed in the state meet held at Bullock Academy in Statesboro.
The Southland girls’ team had an impressive performance at the meet, capturing the state title with four team members placing in the top ten.
Southland’s Jadie Burrell finishing second overall, followed closely by Elizabeth Law, who finished in third place. Ella Arnold earned a seventh-place finish and Ila Johnson came in eighth place. Other team members included McGraw Minor, Taylor Ragsdale, Gracie Burrell, Mary Beth Easterlin, Taylor Bennett, Taylor Humphrey, Julia Claire Hubbard, and Reece Bell.
In the boys’ race, the Southland runners finished in fourth place overall with Tanner Humphrey capturing the State Individual Title with a three-kilometer time of 10:56. Ashton Ray finished in fourth place. Other team members included Noah Sheff, Lee Graft, Matterson Debaise, Walker Ragsdale, Will Godwin, and Shaw Pinnell.
