American Legion Post 558 wraps up summer with Labor Day Celebration, scholarship awards

AMERICUS — The C.B. Dowdell American Legion Post 558 ended the summer in Americus on a high note. As the new school year resumed, the post began to allot each of its four scholarship recipients the Edward A. Thomas Scholarship. This Edward A. Thomas scholarship is named for one of the charter members of the C.B. Dowdell post, and is awarded to high school seniors for outstanding academic achievement. The scholarship awards the students $500 each to the school of their enrollment. The recipients are Na’Charlesia Floyd, Eric Brown Jr., Chandler Perry, and Derica Thomas, all of Americus-Sumter High School.
The post also wrapped up the summer with their annual Labor Day celebration. The guests and children celebrated with barbeque, a bounce house, and horseback riding.
