Matt Mashburn: Nov. 1, 2017

Matt was born on June 27, 1979, in Sanford, N.C., to Kenneth and Linda Mashburn. He proudly served his country in the U.S Army, before being honorably discharged as a staff sergeant. While being an active member he served in Korea and Operation Iraq Freedom. During his service he was the recipient of: Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, Meritorious Unit Commendation, Army Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Korean Defense Service Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal, Noncommissioned Officer Army Lapel Button, Professional Development Ribbon/ Army Service Ribbon/Overseas Service Ribbon and Basic Aviation Badge. He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Affairs. He was currently employed at CSX as Safety Director of Mechanical Operations.

He is survived by his wife Jocelyn Cordell Mashburn; children, Callie Marie Mashburn and
William Tate Mashburn; parents Ken and Linda Mashburn of Goldston, N.C.; brother and sister- in-law, Joshua and Alex Mashburn of Goldston, N.C.; father and mother-in-law, Billy and
Robbie Cordell of Americus, Ga.; sister and brother-in-law, Jonathon and Megan Day of Blythewood S.C.; nephews, JJ Mashburn, Levi Mashburn and Sullivan Day; niece, Hattie Day; a dear cousin; Lisa (Mike) McLaughlin; and many other aunts, uncles and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his uncles, Greg Mashburn and Jim Barker.

A memorial service was held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 1, 2017, in the Nassau Funeral Home Chapel.

In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations in his honor be made to the Wounded Warriors Project or another VA organization.
