AMERICUS — Ms. Miriam Laverne Cheek Saunders, age 90, of Americus, passed away Thursday, Nov. 2, 2017, at her residence. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 5, 2017, at Shiloh Baptist Church. The Rev. Hugh Harbort and the Rev. Andrew Stucker will officiate. Interment will follow in the Shiloh Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends following the service in the church sanctuary and from 1-4 p.m. Friday and Saturday at 1216 U.S. Highway 19 North Americus, Ga.

Ms. Saunders was born April 3, 1927, daughter of the late Wallis Furlow Cheek and the late Ada Louise Arrington Cheek. She retired from the Board of Education with the Americus City Schools. She was a member of Shiloh Baptist Church.

Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law: Rodney Saunders (Shelia) of Peachtree City, Ga., and Phil Saunders (Mary) of Moultrie, Ga.; five grandchildren, Carrie Saunders of Moultrie, Ga., Betsy Milam (Dan) of Cartersville, Ga., John Saunders (Shanna) of Moultrie, Ga., Holly Croyle (Clint) of Newnan, Ga., and Kyle Saunders (Suzanne) of Cumming, Ga. Six great-grandchildren, Sadie, Drake, Marry Beth, Ben, Joseph and Henry also survive.

Ms. Saunders was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years Frank Webster Saunders.
