Kathy Bruer guest of friend for Hawaii trip

Kathy Bruer’s friend, Terri Murral, won a trip of appreciation at her job with AFLAC. Terri invited Kathy Bruer to go with her.
Kathy left on Oct. 13 and drove to Fortson and stayed with Terri so they could leave early the next day. They left about 3:00 a.m. for Groome Transportation in Columbus, where other AFLAC employees and their guests were ready to leave for the Atlanta airport. While in Atlanta they saw David Streetman, who is with the Ellaville Police Department.
They boarded their flight at 8 a.m., arriving at 2 p.m. in Honolulu. They stayed at the Hilton Hawaiian Village Resort. They were entertained with a Welcome to Hawaii Party at Kuroda Field where they received mango shell leis and were entertained by hula dancers and urban Hawaiian dancers and a DJ.
On Sunday, they visited Pearl Harbor where they viewed a movie and boarded a ship that took them where the USS Arizona lies beneath the ocean.
On Monday, they went to the Ala Moana Mall that containes hundreds of stores.
On Tuesday, they met Bethany Hamilton, who lost her arm at age 13 to a shark bite. She has become one of the top professional surfers of all times. She shared her faith and how it helped her to overcome the shark attack.
Terri and Kathy visited the Polynesian Cultural Center and Samoa and the Island of Tonga. They went to Tahiti and saw a traditional Hawaiian wedding.
They attended a Farewell Celebration with an ‘80s theme in which were tributes to music artists of the time. Their flight left that night.
Before leaving they had dinner at a Waikiki restaurant, Duke’s.
They were in Los Angeles before they knew it and arrived at Atlanta at 3 p.m. Kathy said this was a fabulous trip and she enjoyed it so much.

Andrew Chapel celebrates Homecoming

Andrew Chapel is a special United Methodist church in our community, and held its Homecoming Celebration Oct. 29 with the theme “Living and Leaving a Legacy of Faith.”
Celebrating over 150 years, Andrew Chapel’s worship community started in 1860, with a group of people that held religious services under a brush arbor, five miles south of Ellaville. Family land was later donated in 1871, for the location of the church with the stipulation that no cemetery would ever be allowed on the property.
The present church sanctuary was built in 1872.  A Sunday School Annex was added in 1948.
The church name’s origin is still somewhat debatable. Past opinions include that it was named after Andrew one of the 12  Disciples, and the Bishop Andrew who was the first Georgian elected bishop of the Methodist Episcopal Church in 1844. Current members just call it Andrew Chapel United Methodist Church, a place where “ God’s love is experienced for real.”
Andrew Chapel has been served by over 70 pastors throughout its history. Current pastor, Kevin Clotfelter, has been blessed to serve Andrew Chapel for 16 years.
The Rev. Wesley Kaylor, past member of Andrew Chapel United Methodist Church, and is present pastor at Sasser United Methodist Church, delivered the celebration message. The service was open to the community. Andrew Chapel is located at 5764 U.S. Highway 19 South, a white church with red doors and a very friendly church.
After the special service and celebration, a delicious meal was provided by the church.

Birth announcement

Christopher and Star Gaddy announce the birth of a son, Maverick Carter Gaddy, on Oct. 24, 2017, at Phoebe Sumter Medical Center in Americus. The infant weighed 4 lbs., 15 oz. at birth. He has a sister Carly White and a brother Ryder Grandparents are Desi and Wanda Powers of Ellaville and Jimmy and Jane Gaddy of Andersonville.

Carvis Passmore has October Yard of the Month

The Rainbow Garden Club of Ellaville presented the Yard of the Month to Carvis Passmore for October. His front yard was decorated for the fall season with Halloween decorations.
The Garden Club members presented the sign of the month to Mr. Passmore for display in his yard.
Mr. Passmore celebrated his 89th birthday last weekend and his family came and saw his yard of the month sign while visiting.
Garden Club members who presented him with the Yard of the Month Sign were Darlene Lewis, Judy Gattis and Mary Ellen McCorkle.
Mr. Passmore lives on Ga. Highway 26 west of Ellaville about miles from the city limits.
