POWDER SPRINGS — Lawrence Jackson (Buddy) Harris, age 91, of Powder Springs (formerly of Smyrna) died Nov. 5, 2017. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 11, 2017, at First Baptist Church Powder Springs with the Rev. Mike Woods, the Rev. Phil Miller and Larry Darnell, his Sunday School teacher, officiating. Burial will follow at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 12 at Oak Grove Cemetery, Americus, Ga.

A native of Americus, Mr. Harris was the son of the late Thomas J. Harris and the late Deanie Griffin Harris. He graduated from Americus High School in the Class of 1943, attended Emory University and was a graduate of the American Academy of Funeral Service, New York City. He was a retired funeral director with H.M. Patterson and Son Funeral Directors and a member of Powder Springs First Baptist Church.

Surviving are his wife, the former Dorothy Nell Hines of Leslie, Ga.; daughters and sons-in-law, Laura (Douglas) McCoy of Marietta, Ga., Leslie (Raymond) Phillips of Rockmart, Ga.; grandchildren: Cpl. Tanner Freeman USMC, LCpl. Noah Phillips USMC and Alise Biggs; sister-in-law, Patricia Hines of Leslie, Ga., and several nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in Mr. Harris’ memory to the Music Ministry of First Baptist Church Powder Springs, 4262 Marietta Street, Powder Springs, GA 30127.

The family will receive friends from 3-5 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. on Friday, Nov.10 at Mayes Ward-Dobbins Macland Chapel, Powder Springs.   mayeswarddobbins.com
