AMERICUS — Americus-Sumter High School (ASHS) recently held its first Red Cross blood drive for the 2017-18 school year. The ASHS  “Future Health Professionals” (HOSA) hosted the blood drive in the HealthCare Sciences lab of the CTAE building, the first of four drives to be held this year.
During this drive, the Red Cross collected 59 units of blood from more than 150 participants in five hours. As an incentive for donating, each successful participant received e-bucks to shop at Target
“HOSA always tries to help the world around them, and hosting blood drives is one of many ways we are doing that,” said Barbara Mitchell, ASHS faculty member and HOSA sponsor. In addition to assisting the Red Cross with collecting plasma, the blood drive also offers HOSA students a peek into what a medical career demands.
Americus-Sumter High will also host blood drives on Jan. 29 and March 28.
