The Ellaville Municipal Election was held Nov. 7. Voters elected a mayor and two council seats.
Incumbent Mayor David Theiss received 53 votes to Leah Ellis Clark’s 180 votes.

Schley Elementary number one in state
Schley County Elementary School has been designated the number one elementary school in the state of Georgia, 2017 College and Career Ready Performance Index (CCRPI). There are other elementary schools that individually have posted a higher score, but the System Score takes into account all elementary grades (from multiple schools in the system).
“This is incredible and is amazing in comparison to many  school systems,” said Brian Hall, the school’s principal.
“Specifically, we made gains [71.237 to 76.523] in students scoring at the Developing Learners or above  on the Georgia  Milestones  ELA  portion.
“The same was true for the math gains on the Milestones [83.612 to 88.530].
“The percentage of the third-grade students achieving the 650 Lexile Score grew from [71.237 to 76.523].
“The fifth grade made a considerable jump for those meeting the 850 lexile level  [77.320 to 93.636].
“This 91.9 score is one of the highest in the area for any division [elementary, middle or high school], he said.
The principal and Schley County Schools Superintendent Adam Hathaway both praised the teachers, students, parents and staff for working extremely hard.
Congratulations!

Historical society board meets
The Ellaville-Schley County Historical Society board met Tuesday in its office at the Schley County courthouse.
We’re looking into a special project or two that we will go through with the Georgia Historical Society in Savannah, of which we are members. This is about historical markers to be placed in two locations in Ellaville.
Bill Sawyer was asked to allow the historical society to place a light outside the side door beside the ramp.
Everyone is welcome to join the nonprofit organization. For information call Nancy McMath Young at 229-937-2116 or ask any member.
