AMERICUS – Lady Hurricanes Head coach, Nicki Levering, and the Georgia Southwestern State University (GSW) softball program signed six new players to the team’s 2018 class during the November early signing period recently.
The Lady Hurricanes’ newest signees include a variety of positions featuring 6A All-Region Pitcher of the Year Hayley Dickerson, of Clyo, Ga.
“I’m very excited about the early signees for our 2018-19 class,” Levering said. “We put a special emphasis on pitching, catching and speed. This class will help add more athleticism to our program and build a stronger foundation for us to compete in the Peach Belt Conference.”
Dickerson, a graduate of Effingham High School, was named 6A All-Region Pitcher of the Year during her senior season.
“Hayley is a solid pitcher with speed and movement along with a powerful bat,” said Leverette. “She will make us more versatile in the circle and give us the edge we need to be more competitive in the conference.”
Kayla Rowell, a catcher from Brunswick, graduated from Brunswick High School. Rowell was named 6A All-Region First Team in her senior season.
“Kayla is a power hitting catcher with a solid arm and excellent communication skills behind the plate,” Levering said. “She and Hayley played together when they were younger so I look forward to watching them work as one of the main batteries at GSW.”
Allyson Murdock, an outfielder from Debary, Fla., graduated from University High School. Murdock was named to the All-Area teams for Volusia/Flagler Counties.
“Allyson is an outstanding athlete with speed, instinct and the ability to make game-changing plays in the outfield,” said Leverette. “She’s a versatile hitter that can work all areas of the field along with hitting the long ball and is a standout athlete that will throw a huge punch in our lineup.”
Brianna Bryson, an infielder from Winder, graduated from Apalachee High School. Brynson was named 6A All-Region First Team in her senior season.
“Brianna is an athletic and gritty player with the ability to simply make plays,” Leverette said. “She’s an excellent leader and communicator on defense while being a scrappy power hitter that aggressively runs the bases. Her intensity and mindset will help our infield succeed.”
Jenna Hollomon, an infielder from Leesburg, graduated from Lee County High School. Hollomon was named 6A All-Region First Team in her senior year.
“Jenna is a fearless corner player who plays with grit and instinct,” said Levering. “She’s a power hitter with a great eye at the plate and shows true leadership skills on and off the field.”
Shaquarius Sutton, an outfielder from Hogansville, graduated from Lagrange High School.
“Shaq is a fast and athletic outfielder that is able to make plays who will bring a great energy to our lineup,” Levering concluded.”
