PLAINS — Mr. James Conger Sr., a beloved father and grandfather, age 73, of Plains, passed away early Thursday morning, Dec. 7, 2017, at his residence. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 9, 2017, at Plains United Methodist Church. The Rev. R.T. Beverly officiated. Interment followed in Lebanon cemetery in Plains. A visitation was held from 6-8 p.m. Friday, Dec. 8, 2017, at Aldridge Funeral Services.

Mr. Conger was born Feb. 23, 1944, in Albany, Ga., son of the late Benjamin Dow Conger and the late Lillie Mae Barfield Conger. He was a lifetime self-employed contractor. Mr. Conger was of the Baptist faith.

Survivors include his wife Patricia Chavers Conger; three sons and daughters-in-law, James Dow Conger Jr. (Polly) of Ellaville, Charles Douglas Stewart of Ellaville, and Benjamin D. Conger (Kathy) of Plains; seven grandchildren, Preston Stewart (Haley) of Ellaville, Hannah Robinson (Cody) of Ellaville, Chase Conger of Ellaville, Nicole Conger, Alyssa Conger, Micah Conger, all of Perry and Chloe Conger of Plains; one brother-in-law. Nelson Penn of Americus; sisters-in-law, Linda Pilcher of Americus and Sue Gilbert Bishop (Jack) of Panama City Beach, Fla. A number of nieces and nephews also survive.

Mr. Conger was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Sidney Penn and Claudia Wade; and two brothers, Ben Sikes and Bill Sikes.
