Ellaville women attend Council of Safety Chapter DAR meeting
On Dec. 12, Vicki Justice and Nancy McMath Young attended the Council of Safety Chapter DAR monthly meeting in the Magnolia Room at Magnolia Manor. Vicki has applied for membership.
Regent Gaye Sheppard called the meeting to order. The Pledge to the American Flag was said.
Leila Case introduced the guest Julie Megginson who played the piano and sang Christmas songs for the program.
Nancy Gaston asked the blessing. A lovely luncheon was served: ham, potatoes, green beans, rolls, apple pie, green salad and coffee and tea.
The tables were covered with white linen tablecloths, and the center pieces were red poinsettias, which were used as door prizes.
The hostesses for the December meeting were Lynn McNeil Anderson, Beth Lane and Elaine Smith.
Regent Sheppard gave pictures of the Old DAR House on Taylor Street to all members.
About 25 members attended.

Mary Ellen McCorkle attends grandson’s game
Mary Ellen McCorkle left for Valrico, Florida, (Tampa area) on Dec. 3 to be with her grandson, Jeremiah Sawicky as he played in the Pop Warner Division 3 PeeWee Football National Super Bowl.
Jeremiah’s games were scheduled to play on Dec. 4 and 7.
The Pop Warner Little Scholars Inc. is the only youth football programs that requires scholastic aptitude to participate.
The Valrico Rams won both games and are Champions in their Division.
Mary Ellen celebrated their win as well as her birthday at the same time.
When all of the excitement was over she went to visit her other son, Ricky Sawicky in Apollo Beach, Florida, for a couple of days. She returned home on Dec. 9.

City of Ellaville holds annual Christmas Parade
On the night of Dec.14, the City of Ellaville held its annual Christmas Parade with 37 units.
City Manager Lynne McChargue said this parade was a big success.
Rusty Tondee was Master of Ceremonies and the Grand Marshal was newly elected Mayor, Leah Ellis Clark. She will take her new position Jan.1.
The Parade has four categories: marching units, floats, other, and honorable mention. There were two winners per category. Winner for Marching Units First Place, Schley County High School Band; and Second Place, Deep South Canine Rescue Unit.
Winners in Floats were First Place, Shema Baptist Church; and Second Place, Schley County High School Future Farmers of America.
Winners in Other were Ellaville-Schley County Historical Society; and Second Place Schley County Elementary Schools.
There were also tractors, motorcycles, a Sumter County fire truck, Schley County fire trucks, cars and much more.
Last but not least was Santa Claus. The children were so excited to see him. Everyone left with a special feeling of Christmas in their heart.

Santa Claus visits with children after parade
After the parade, Santa Claus visited with all the children who came to see him in the Rotunda of the Schley County Courthouse.
There was a lovely decorated Christmas tree and a large chair placed under the chandelier for Santa Clause to sit in and visit with all the children. A big container of candy canes for the boys and girls sat beside him.
All of the children sat on Santa’s lap and told him what they wanted for Christmas.
Santa Claus had about eight elves helping him. They wore cute  Christmas costumes of red and green.
This was a special night for all the children, parents and the whole community.

A Merry Christmas to all
This is the time of the year to remember why we celebrate such a joyous time.
