River Valley Regional Commission (RVRC) is a recipient of The Georgia Municipal Association (GMA) Health Promotion and Wellbeing Grant Program for Fiscal Year 2018. This grant gives RVRC employees the ability to enhance and to conduct new, or improve existing workplace health promotion and wellness programs. The GMA Wellness Grant also gives employees a sense of ownership as we work together to form a coordinated action to improve health and well-being. Subjects such as health promotion, fitness, recreation, tobacco and alcohol awareness, and workplace safety are all areas where health promotion in the workplace is very effective. Implementing such a program at the RVRC gives employees a feeling of being more than just a number.
Wellness programs and general health promotion in the workplace shows employees that the organization recognizes that both the employer and the employee share some level of responsibility for the employee’s health. It shows the employee that their health is of value to the organization. Healthier employees mean fewer absences and a lower turnover rate.
