ELLAVILLE — This year the Georgia State Patrol and the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve teamed up to collect toys for the Toys for Tots program throughout the state. The Georgia State Patrol Post 10 in Americus had a very successful toy collection and monetary donation campaign in our region. As a result of their hard work, the Toys for Tots program provided Christmas gifts to over 100 needy children in Schley and Macon counties. Many of these children would not have Christmas gifts if it was not for the generosity of the Toys for Tots campaign. The program also provided gifts to needy children in all of the counties patrolled by Post 10.
In addition to the Toys for Tots program, Christmas gifts were also donated by International Paper Co. in Oglethorpe, New Hope for Ellaville, local churches, civic organizations, individuals and the faculty and staff at the Schley County School System.
The gift distribution through the Toys for Tots program was implemented through the Schley and Macon County Department of Family and Children Services. Applications were screened, processed and distributed to families who are in the highest need of services in Schley and Macon counties.
“The Toys for Tots program is a great asset to our community.” said John T. Greene, coordinator, Schley County Family Connection. “Anytime we see a U.S. Marine or Georgia State trooper, we should all thank them for their support of our community through this much needed program,” he added.
