AMERICUS — Mrs. Lynda Williams Sweat, 89, of Americus, formerly of Blackshear, passed away Thursday morning, Jan. 4, 2018, at the Magnolia Manor Senior Living Center in Americus following a lengthy illness.

Born on August 16, 1928, to the late Turner N. and Etta L. Williams, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Lonnie E. Sweat Jr.; her daughter, Sally S. Bueker; and her siblings, Turner N. Williams Jr., Rosa W. Pryor, Chuck L. Williams.

Mrs. Sweat had a deep love for family and friends and a willingness to help others, was a lifelong devoted member of the Methodist Church and Christian, and a teacher of adolescents (home economics – 22 years).

Survivors include her two sons, Lonnie E. (Nancy Brand) Sweat III of Tallahassee, Fla., and Sam F. (Katy) Sweat of Fayetteville, Ga.; seven grandchildren, Becky (Jason) Pruitt, Sam T. (Stephanie) Sweat, Aaron M. Sweat, John A. Sweat, Adam W. Sweat, Matthew J. Sweat, and Tucker W. Sweat; a brother, Bill M. Williams; a sister, Helena W. Meek; and several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

Funeral services for Mrs. Sweat will be held at 11 a.m. Monday morning, Jan. 8, 2018, at Blackshear First United Methodist Church.

Interment will be in the Blackshear Cemetery.

Visitation for Mrs. Sweat will be held one hour prior to the service at the church.
